Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for the following position, purely on a temporary contract-basis under an ICMR-funded project titled, A Comprehensive Epidemiological Survey of Avian Influenza Virus in the Migratory Pathways of Jammu and Kashmir, being undertaken at Laboratory of Vaccine Biotechnology, Division of Animal Biotechnology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Kashmir.

Essential: – First class master’s degree in Virology or allied lifesciences from a recognized university. or Second-class master’s degree with PhD in Virology or allied life sciences from a recognized university

Desirable: Experience in molecular and cellular virology, and viral immunology. Previous experience working in a Biosafety level-II or above-certified laboratory.

The project advertised is an ICMR funded epidemiological survey of Avian Influenza across migratory pathways of Jammu and Kashmir hosted at the Laboratory of Vaccine Biotechnology, Division of Animal Biotechnology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST Kashmir. SKUAST Kashmir is a recognized agricultural and veterinary sciences university serving the north-west Himalayan region and runs research into livestock and poultry health, making it a logical host for avian influenza surveillance and vaccine research.

The Principal Investigator named in the advertisement, Dr Nadeem Shabir, is a vaccine biotechnology scientist and Wellcome Trust DBT India Alliance fellow associated with the Laboratory of Vaccine Biotechnology at SKUAST K and leads research in poultry virus vaccines and influenza work.

This project follows local and national priority to monitor avian influenza given previous ICMR and state level surveillance efforts and represents a temporary project based appointment governed by ICMR contractual pay and norms. For applicants this means strong emphasis on molecular virology, BSL-2 (or above) lab practice and immunology experience will be advantageous.
