Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released a detailed notification for the Junior Engineer (JE) Examination, 2026. The examination is being conducted for recruitment to various posts of Junior Engineer in different organizations and offices of the Government of India, as well as for Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

कर्मचारी चयन आयोग (SSC) ने जूनियर इंजीनियर (JE) परीक्षा, 2026 के लिए विस्तृत अधिसूचना जारी की है। यह परीक्षा भारत सरकार के विभिन्न संगठनों और कार्यालयों में जूनियर इंजीनियर के विभिन्न पदों के साथ-साथ भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD) में वैज्ञानिक सहायक के लिए भी आयोजित की जा रही है।

The posts are classified as Group ‘B’ in Level‑6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400) of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix. The total tentative vacancies are 1,748. The examination will be conducted in two papers – Paper‑I (qualifying) and Paper‑II (merit‑based).

Essential Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess the prescribed Degree/Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.) from a recognized University/Institute. For Scientific Assistant in IMD – Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Physics) or Computer Science/Electronics/IT/Telecommunication. Experience requirements apply for certain posts (BRO, DGQA, etc.).

आवश्यक शैक्षणिक योग्यता: उम्मीदवारों के पास मान्यता प्राप्त विश्वविद्यालय/संस्थान से प्रासंगिक इंजीनियरिंग विषय (सिविल, इलेक्ट्रिकल, मैकेनिकल आदि) में निर्धारित डिग्री/डिप्लोमा होना चाहिए। IMD में वैज्ञानिक सहायक के लिए – विज्ञान (भौतिकी) या कंप्यूटर विज्ञान/इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स/IT/दूरसंचार में स्नातक डिग्री। कुछ पदों (BRO, DGQA आदि) के लिए अनुभव आवश्यक है।

Age Limit (as on 01.08.2026): For posts with age limit up to 30 years – born not earlier than 02.08.1996 and not later than 01.08.2008. For posts with age limit up to 32 years (CPWD) – born not earlier than 02.08.1994 and not later than 01.08.2008. Relaxations: SC/ST – 5 years; OBC – 3 years; PwBD – 10/13/15 years; Ex‑Servicemen – 3 years after deduction of service.

Application Fee: ₹100 (non‑refundable). Women candidates, SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex‑Servicemen are exempted from payment of fee. Fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card. Correction charges: ₹200 for first modification and ₹500 for the second modification.

How to Apply: Candidates must complete their One‑Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website https://ssc.gov.in. The OTR from the old website (ssc.nic.in) is not valid. After OTR, candidates can fill the Online Application Form for the JE Examination 2026. The application module captures a live photograph of the candidate – no pre‑existing photograph is required. Candidates who opt for Aadhaar‑Based Authentication will not face rejection for photograph/signature issues.

आवेदन कैसे करें: उम्मीदवारों को नई SSC वेबसाइट https://ssc.gov.in पर अपना वन‑टाइम पंजीकरण (OTR) पूरा करना होगा। पुरानी वेबसाइट (ssc.nic.in) का OTR मान्य नहीं है। OTR के बाद, उम्मीदवार JE परीक्षा 2026 के लिए ऑनलाइन आवेदन पत्र भर सकते हैं। आवेदन मॉड्यूल उम्मीदवार की लाइव फोटो कैप्चर करता है – किसी पूर्व‑मौजूदा फोटो की आवश्यकता नहीं है। जिन उम्मीदवारों ने आधार‑आधारित प्रमाणीकरण का विकल्प चुना है, उनका आवेदन फोटो/हस्ताक्षर संबंधी समस्याओं के कारण खारिज नहीं किया जाएगा।

Selection Process: The examination consists of two Computer‑Based Examination (CBE) papers. Paper‑I is qualifying in nature – General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Q), General Awareness (50 Q), and a subject‑specific part (100 Q) chosen from Part‑A to Part‑G. Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates). Paper‑II is the merit‑determining paper – 100 questions from the chosen subject for 300 marks. Duration: 2 hours. Negative marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer in Paper‑I and 1 mark per wrong answer in Paper‑II.

चयन प्रक्रिया: परीक्षा दो कंप्यूटर‑आधारित परीक्षा (CBE) पेपरों में होती है। पेपर‑I योग्यता प्रकृति का है – सामान्य बुद्धि एवं तर्क (50 Q), सामान्य जागरूकता (50 Q), और भाग‑A से भाग‑G में से चुना गया एक विषय‑विशिष्ट भाग (100 Q)। अवधि: 2 घंटे (पात्र PwBD उम्मीदवारों के लिए 2 घंटे 40 मिनट)। पेपर‑II मेरिट‑निर्धारण पेपर है – चुने गए विषय से 100 प्रश्न 300 अंकों के लिए। अवधि: 2 घंटे। नकारात्मक अंकन: पेपर‑I में प्रत्येक गलत उत्तर के लिए 0.25 अंक और पेपर‑II में प्रत्येक गलत उत्तर के लिए 1 अंक।

Minimum Qualifying Marks (Paper‑I & II): UR – 30%, OBC/EWS – 25%, SC/ST/PwBD – 20%. Candidates shortlisted in Paper‑I will appear for Paper‑II. Final selection and allocation of post/organization will be based on Paper‑II marks and post preferences submitted by the candidate.

Paper‑II includes in‑depth engineering subjects. The standard for engineering subjects is at the Diploma level (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) and Graduation level for CS/IT, ECE, Physics, and Telecommunication. Detailed syllabus is provided in the official notification.

Special Note for BRO Posts: Only male candidates are eligible for Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). BRO posts have stringent physical and medical standards, including Physical Efficiency Test (1‑mile run within 10 minutes), region‑wise height/weight/chest requirements, and comprehensive medical examinations. Candidates must satisfy themselves that they meet these standards before applying. Failure to qualify in these tests will result in rejection without reallocation to other posts.

BRO पदों के लिए विशेष नोट: बॉर्डर रोड्स ऑर्गनाइजेशन (BRO) में जूनियर इंजीनियर पदों के लिए केवल पुरुष उम्मीदवार पात्र हैं। BRO पदों के लिए कठोर शारीरिक और चिकित्सा मानक हैं, जिनमें शारीरिक दक्षता परीक्षण (10 मिनट के भीतर 1 मील दौड़), क्षेत्र‑वार ऊँचाई/वजन/छाती की आवश्यकताएँ, और व्यापक चिकित्सा परीक्षण शामिल हैं। उम्मीदवारों को आवेदन करने से पहले स्वयं को इन मानकों को पूरा करने का आश्वासन देना होगा। इन परीक्षणों में असफल होने पर अन्य पदों पर पुनः आवंटन के बिना खारिज कर दिया जाएगा।
