1. Chatlam Wetland Reserve

2. Freshkoori Wetland Reserve

Freshkoori Wetland Reserve was notified in 1945 and supports a rich diversity of migratory birds arriving from different parts of the world including Siberia and Central Asia during winter. Located near Pampore town of south Kashmir in Pulwama district.

  • GIS Area: 0.14 km²
  • Perimeter: 1.89 km
  • Altitude: 1551 m
  • Resident Birds: Common Myna, Blue Rock Pigeon, White Cheeked Bulbul, Little Grebe, Himalayan Griffon Vulture, Great Horned Owl, Common Sandpiper, Blue-crowned Night Heron, Eastern Grey Heron, Indian Pond Heron, Central Asian Kingfisher, House Crow.
  • Migratory Birds: Northern Pintail, Common Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall, Mallard, Common Pochard, Red-crested Pochard, Greylag Goose, Northern Shoveler, Garganey, Indian Whiskered Tern, Indian Moorhen, Pheasant-Tailed Jacana, Common Swallow, Rufous-backed Shrike, Little Bittern.
  • Major Flora: Acorus calamus, Lemna major, Lemna minor, Typha angustifolia, Salvinia spp., Phragmites communis, Mentha piperita, Utricularia aurea, Myriophyllum verticillatum, Nymphaea alba.

3. Gharana Wetland Reserve

Located in Jammu region near the Indo–Pakistan border, about 35 km from Jammu city. Supports 20,000–25,000 migratory birds during peak winter.

4. Hygam Wetland Reserve

  • GIS Area: 7.62 km²
  • Key Species: Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)
  • Migratory Birds: Mallard, Gadwall, Northern Pintail, Common Teal, Wigeon, Common Pochard, Indian Moorhen, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Common Swallow, Shrikes, Little Bittern, Indian Oriole, Snipe, Slaty-headed Parakeet, European Hoopoe.

5. Hokersar Wetland Reserve

Declared a Ramsar site in 2005 due to its high biodiversity value. Located 10 km from Srinagar, hosting lakhs of migratory birds every winter.

  • Altitude: 1565 m

7. Kukarian Wetland Reserve

Located in Jammu district; notified in 1981. Spread across Batore, Bangore, Kukrian, Sandun, and Makwal villages.

One of the famous wetlands of Kashmir Valley; notified in 1970.

Notified in 1945; located near Pampore, famous for saffron fields.
