Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides assistance to people without any kind of discrimination including offering medical assistance during natural and man-made disasters through establishment of healthcare owners, implementing medical programs and research, carrying out educational, mental health, and medical awareness capacity building and carrying out/sponsor research to provide strategic input on relevant medical treatment options in India.

MSF is non-religious, non-political and non-governmental. MSF does not base its assistance on race, religion, gender or political affiliation. In 1999 DWB/MSF was awarded the Noble Peace Prize as recognition for its medical work in several continents.

RE-ANNOUNCEMENT OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

POSITION: Clinical Psychologist

LOCATION of job: Kashmir

DURATION: 01 Year (Renewable)

WORKED: 40 hours per week

Purpose of post:

To provide psychological support to patients according to DWB/MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

Functional and Hierarchical Lines

Reports to: Manager to Mental Health Support (MHS) & Accountabley Accountable Mental Health Activity Manager (MHAM)

Accountabilities:

* Diagnosing all kinds of mental health needs of patients attending the clinic and proposing a plan of care or referral to the mental health team and his/her relation.

* Implementing the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary in order to improve the patient’s condition (e.g. physician, nurse, social worker).

* Implementing the sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the required treatment.

* Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to DWB/MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health condition.

* Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential and compiling all documents needed for the start of the patient activities.

* Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions.

* Training translators on basic mental health and psychological support skills.

* Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any errors or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective (e.g. patient retention, refusal of treatment, etc.).

* Keep records, statistics and files updated and collecting and reporting on DWB/MSF protocols/guidelines.

Context Specific Accountabilities

* Provide individual, group, and family-based therapy to support emotional well-being and enhance coping mechanisms.

* Collaborate closely with medical, social, and other clinical teams to ensure holistic care, including psycho-social management, trauma recovery, and positive adaptation.

* Refer clients to specialized care based on need.

* Assist in the handling of psychological or ethical cases (risk of suicide and self-harm) with the support from MHAM/MHS.

* Active participation in clinical supervision, case discussions and project meetings.

* Documentation and Reports:

* Ensure regular update of patients’ files and maintain confidentiality, code of ethics based on guidelines and SOPs.

* Support the medical team in data entry and drafting of reports of MSF activities.

* Other tasks:

* Collaborating with other organizations to undertake community needs assessments and identify key stressors and develop cultural sensitive resilience-building strategies.

* In collaboration with community workers, undertake community peer support groups, community gatherings and awareness programs.

* Collaborate with community leaders, other mental health organizations and social service agencies to create a coordinated support network.

* Participate in programe evaluation and contribute to research on the effectiveness of community resilience initiatives.

* Facilitate mental health and resilience capacity-building activities in the project with the guidance of MDW/MSF Project Medical Referent (PMR)/Project Coordinator (PC) and following DWB/MSF guidelines and policies for it.

* External Coordination:

* Actively participates in operational research related to MH in Kashmir, as required.

The above described job position, staff shall be flexible and available to work in all DWB/MSF working area

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master’s level in Clinical Psychology (MA/M.Sc. Clinical Psychology) or an equivalent recognized by the Counsel of India / RCI as Clinical Psychologist.

Experience: Essential 2 years of experience minimum post M.Phil. Decorative previous experience with DWB/MSF or similar organizations in similar settings.

* Experience with community-based approach is highly desirable.

* Strong understanding of the principles of Psychological resilience and trauma-informed care.

* As a clinical psychologist working in a DWB/MSF program, you will play a crucial role in supporting the communities’ ability to cope with challenges and build positive coping mechanisms.

Languages: Mission language (English) and local language (Kashmiri) urdu, essential

Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and Internet)
