Applications are invited for ONE post of RESEARCH ASSISTANT working with Prof. Sumati Surya in the THEORETICAL PHYSICS GROUP of the Institute.

The appointment is on a temporary basis, initially for a period of one year, with a possible extension by another year depending on satisfactory performance.

The candidate should have a good command of General Relativity and Quantum Field Theory, as well as an active interest and experience in programming in C++.

Job Description: The project will be to work on kinematical and dynamical aspects of the causal set approach to quantum gravity, from a broadly numerical perspective.

Remuneration: A consolidated remuneration of Rs. 31,000/- per month plus HRA as applicable per the norms will be paid to the selected candidates.

Essential Qualifications: (i) M.Sc. degree or Integrated M.Sc. degree in Physics or Mathematics, with a strong background in General Relativity and Quantum Field Theory (ii) Experience and interest in numerical methods in particular with C++.

The last date for receipt of applications is 20th September 2025. All applications received till the due date would be given due consideration. If no suitable candidate is subsequently selected by the screening and interview process, the position would be kept open on the Institute website till filled.

Upper Age Limit: The upper age limit is 30 years as on the last date of application.

General Information:

1. Age relaxation will be applicable as per Govt. of India rules for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories.
2. The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates for test/ interview to a reasonable limit, on the basis of relevant qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement.
3. Mere fulfilling the essential and desired qualifications will not entitle an applicant to be called for an interview.
4. The Institute reserves the right to relax any of the above requirements in exceptional cases.
5. The Institute reserves the right not to fill the post herein advertised.
