The Dorrit Hoffleit Undergraduate Astronomy Research Fellowship at Yale is named for Dr. E. Dorrit Hoffleit, a senior research astronomer who served in the university’s astronomy department for almost fifty years.
For more than 20 years, she oversaw summer programs for hundreds of students at the Maria Mitchell Observatory on Nantucket Island, many of whom went on to have prosperous careers in astronomy. She co-wrote The General Catalogue of Trigonometric Stellar Parallaxes and wrote the Bright Star Catalogue. The American Astronomical Society presented Hoffleit with the George Van Biesbroeck Prize in 1988 in recognition of his lifelong contributions to astronomy.
Applicants from all countries are eligible to apply for the fully funded Yale University Dorrit Hoffleit Summer Fellowship 2026 in the USA. The eight-week program will take place in June or July of 2026. Work as an astronomy researcher at Yale during the summer. The Dorrit Hoffleit Summer Fellowship attracts hundreds of students from all around the world each year. At Yale University, students will work under the supervisor’s guidance.
