Who can Apply for the Swansea University International Excellence Scholarship?

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must

Apply for an eligible PhD or Professional Doctorate programme at Swansea University
Hold, or be expected to achieve, a First Class or 2:1 UK undergraduate degree (or international equivalent), and/or a Distinction in a UK Master’s degree (or international equivalent
Be classed as an international student and pay the international tuition fee rate
Be a new applicant (not a current, returning, or transfer PhD/Doctorate student)
Not be applying for a Master’s-level course
Not be fully sponsored by a third party

Please note that these are minimum entry requirements; excellence must be demonstrated beyond academic qualifications as part of your application for your chosen course.

How are Applicants Selected?

Selection is based on academic excellence beyond the minimum entry qualifications. Applicants are encouraged to include achievements such as academic prizes, outreach activities, or teaching experience in their supporting statements. Final decisions on awards are communicated via the offer letter.

What is the Benefit of the Swansea University International Excellence Scholarship?

The scholarship covers the difference between the international and home tuition fee rates for the duration of the programme. This means that successful applicants will pay the UK home rate, which is currently £4,786 for the 2024/25 academic year. The amount increases annually in line with UKRI regulations (typically 3%)
