Position available for Project Associate-I

Applications are invited from highly motivated and eligible candidates for the project entitled “Exploring Protoplanetary Disk Structures: Planet Formation and Ice Lines” under the SERB- funded research grant, Government of India at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad.

The study of protoplanetary disk structure (asymmetry, rings and gaps), and the formation of ice lines, is a crucial frontier in understanding planet formation.

This project primarily involves the analysis of high-resolution ALMA data on both continuum and spectral lines to investigate the detailed structure and chemistry of protoplanetary disks and various meticulous modeling. The research will focus on:

Analyzing ALMA data to map the distribution of dust and gas in protoplanetary disks Performing radiative transfer modeling to interpret the observed disk structures

Thermochemical modeling to study spectral emission/absorption, ice lines and their connection with disk structures and planet formation

The project offers an exciting opportunity to work on the current research trend on star and planet. formation with potential for publication in high-impact journals, and national and international collaboration.

Eligibility:

The candidate should be highly motivated in research and should have knowledge of programming (e.g. Python). Candidates with the following degrees are eligible to apply:

Master’s degree with 1st class in Physics, Astronomy or other relevant areas

• B.Tech. Degree with 1st class in Computer Science or other relevant areas

Fellowship:

31,000/- p.m. + Applicable HRA for candidates who qualified CSIR-UGC NET (including

assistant professorship), GATE or INSPIRE fellowship or selection process through National

level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and

Institutes.

25,000/- p.m. + Applicable HRA for candidates who do not fall under the above category.

Age Limit:

35 years as on 15.12.2024; relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and Persons with Disabilities as per GOI rules.

Duration:

The appointment is for one year initially and is likely to continue till the end of the project based on the

candidate’s performance and availability of funds.
